About mdt1960

I’m a newly-retired, junior-college graphic design educator. During the warmer months of the year, I enjoy riding my longboard down hills (as long as they’re not too steep). I’m typically game for any short road trip, especially if I have a drone with a camera along for the ride. There’s a small black and white film processing “lab” in my basement because I own “a few” film cameras. When the weather isn’t cooperating, I have a tendency to spend more time in front of my old Macintosh G5 computer working on a digital collage project or scanning film from one of my cameras. There’s a handful of good friends and family in my life along with my two cats—Eddie and Wilma.

I’m looking forward to retirement life and all the freelance work I can take on in graphic design, photography and drone work. I’m also excited about the steady flow of images from the James Webb infrared telescope that was recently employed. At some point after retirement I’m hoping to do a little domestic and international travel including extreme New England (Maine), Alaska, Russia (if they ever get rid of Putin), Greece, and Iceland.

HISTORY IN A NUTSHELL
I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio—that little-brother-city of Cleveland with a chip on its shoulder. Under an airport runway approach, and a neighborhood full of kids, I was the only one in our Stevenson Avenue neighborhood with an odd name and left-handed—destined to be a “black sheep” whether I wanted to or not. Steve Pryseski and I were best friends. In high school, I dropped out of Mr. Bako’s art classes and became a charter member of Frank Reedy’s vocational graphic arts class. During my senior year, I applied to Ohio University for photo journalism, but shortly before graduation and attending the senior prom with Kathy Thompson, I decided to head west and attend classes at Arizona State University in graphic communications.
